ADHD Coaching For Adult and Children
An ADHD coach is a trained professional who helps you come up with ways to handle the responsibilities and activities made harder by your ADHD symptoms.
Coaching is a tool you can use with medications and other ADHD treatments to help you get organized and reach your goals.
It focuses on practical ways to deal with everyday tasks that might be tougher because of ADHD. The topics of these sessions include:
1. Goal Setting
- Help Individuals identify goals and break them into manageable chunks to allow individuals to see the discrepancy between Where They Are and Where They Should Be
- Help Individuals identify obstacles (watching TV, using mobile) and assets (teacher notes, practice tests)
- Create goals that are client-driven and realistic
2. Procrastination
- Identify what keeps individuals stuck (whether in their head or in the environment) and help change their perspective and have small, achievable goals
3. Time Management
- Estimate how long a task will take and learn to prioritize important tasks
- Strike a healthy balance between academics/work and fun activities and improve time management
4. Organization
- Assess and restructure an individual’s physical environment to fit their needs. Clients will learn how to develop appropriate workspaces at home and at school/work, how to manage and upkeep of their spaces.
- Learn how to make lists of tasks and steps, and how to identify distractions that interfere with concentration
- Learn the skills of focus, information-processing and decision-making
5. Motivation, Self-Advocacy
- Develop the confidence to seek help from their teachers, peers, family or other outside resources.
- Learn how to persevere and endure difficult academic and social-emotional situations.
- Compensate for weaknesses and maximize their strengths
6. Parent Training
- Develop awareness of how ADHD affects children cognitively, behaviorally and emotionally so parents can provide appropriate support and help
- Allow parents an opportunity to express specific areas of concern and needs.
- Learn communication techniques to reduce conflict with their child
7. Sensory Integration
- Child will learn how to become aware of their sensory needs and be taught specific strategies and tools so their bodies and minds are in the best possible state for learning
- The final coaching session will also focus on strategies learned, progress on goals, long-term goal development and planning
Child ADHD Coaching
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a common medical condition that causes kids or adults to have trouble focussing, paying attention and controlling their behaviour. It is a neuro-developmental disorder that has biological, genetic and hereditary components.
The Symptoms Can Include:
- Inattention- careless, inattentive, disorganised, distractive, forgetful
- Hyperactivity- fidgety, loud, on-the-go, runs/climbs, talkative
- Impulsivity- blurts out, interrupts, impatient, difficulty with self-regulation.
